Content Strategist

Job Summary 

The successful candidate must be passionate about writing and brand storytelling in various forms, including print, social media and digital. Our ideal candidate would be a writer, editor, and creative strategist all in one, who is able to confidently present their own work to clients. Must be adept at creative writing and have experience working closely with creative directors, art directors, and digital teams to transform compelling and imaginative concepts into successful and effective brand stories. You must have the ability to write in a variety of voices and styles for an array of brands and audiences, with a strong focus on lifestyle and fashion/home areas of consumer marketing. As an agency, our capabilities include strategy and planning, creative services, and digital services. If local hire, this position is a hybrid work arrangement. Occasional travel for company business, client meetings, and if remote, several home office visits to IN required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Analysis of competitor content and customer feedback to inform the development of winning strategies
  • Management of analytics data to identify trends in engagement and adapt accordingly
  • Brainstorm and implement innovative ideas for engaging content that aligns with brand messaging and objectives
  • Responsible to evaluate existing platforms for inconsistencies or areas of improvement
  • Responsible for content creation which includes writing, developing, and updating content for multiple channels, such as websites, blogs and social media channels
  • Responsible for content optimization: editing existing content, repurposing as required, keyword research, optimizing key phrases, and increased engagement
  • Strategic thinker: ability to develop thorough, long-term content strategies that align with business goals
  • Collaborate with design and copy teams to support end-user experiences and the online presence of our clients
  • Monitor and report on performance across multiple channels, adjusting as necessary to maximize reach
  • Analyze trends in user engagement and make data-informed decisions
  • Assist in strategic analysis for clients
  • Ability to create strategic proposals and successfully present to clients
  • Ability to create compelling content across all clients and in-house marketing channels, as well as editing materials following brand standards
  • Responsible to manage assigned projects, to stay within budget, and meet client expectations
  • Strategic planning. Responsible to develop and implement a strategic plan as it applies to digital and social media. The strategic plan should be informed by the overall agency plan as well as incorporating elements important to clients and prospects
  • Provide strategic guidance and clear expectations to internal creative team
  • Measure and report performance of all digital marketing campaigns, and assess against client goals, confidently presenting results to clients
  • Identify trends and insights and optimize content and spend based on results
  • Brainstorm and develop new and creative growth strategies
  • All other duties as assigned

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing communications, marketing, or technology a plus
  • 4+ years of experience in advertising, marketing, and sales
  • 2+ years’ agency experience required

  • Analytic skills: ability to understand readership behaviors though analytics, then use data to shape strategic decisions
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to build relationships within and across teams.
  • Proven track record executing multiple projects with various timelines
  • Occasional travel to BMD home office in Fort Wayne, IN if remote, and client meetings as needed
  • Strong Macintosh skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organizations required
  • Able to confidently present to clients and internal team members required
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software
  • Proficiency in project management, Adobe Creative Suite, PowerPoint, and various digital tools; success at planning and executing projects according to timeline and budget requirements
  • Detail and multi-task oriented
  • Proven coaching and mentoring abilities as well as effective team-building skills.
  • A clear understanding of today’s marketing and advertising environment and a strong sense of entrepreneurship
  • Direct experience with identifying target audiences and devising digital campaigns that engage, inform, and motivate
